2027 RAF Museum Pilot Bear
Our 2027 Pilot Bear wears a Polish Air Force Officers uniform.
During WW2, thousands of Polish exiles served with the Royal Air Force across all commands and theatres of war, earning a reputation for courage and dedication.
In August 1940, the Polish Air Force gained independent status. By VE Day, it included 15 squadrons and 14,000 airmen and airwomen.
ACM Sir Hugh Dowding, who led Fighter Command during the Battle of Britain, later wrote: “Had it not been for the magnificent material contributed by the Polish squadrons and their unsurpassed gallantry, I hesitate to say that the outcome of the Battle would have been the same.”
